Matthew grew up in Auckland and has always had a strong connection to teamwork and strategy, both on and off the field. A former First XV rugby player for St Kentigern College, he continued playing throughout high school but ultimately made the tough decision to step away due to multiple head injuries. However, his passion for the game remains—he is currently the First XV coach for Northcote College, mentoring the next generation of players.
Beyond rugby, Matthew’s background extends into business and technology. He holds degrees in Law, Commerce, and a Master’s in Intellectual Property, giving him a well-rounded perspective on commercial and legal challenges. He also spent several years working with service-based businesses, managing their marketing and digital presence. This hands-on experience has given him valuable insight into the realities of running and growing a business, allowing him to provide practical, commercially minded legal advice.
Outside of the office and coaching, Matthew enjoys spending time with his partner and family.
